It’s about time

It’s been a long time since my last blog post and it’s an even longer time since I started developing the Lee Allen portfolio which quickly became fully functioning dynamic website software.

One of the main reasons I haven’t had time to post is due to work (the kind that pays the bills) been hectic! In addition to the work at work, in my spare time I have been designing and developing a task management system for the company which left very little time for personal work.

Although the positive thing about time is that it allows things to change ‐ in this case massively.

Within this time I have designed a new unique database structure, script architecture and recently began integrating this as dynamic website software version 2.0 Beta. I had previously implemented various updates to the software which were to be released as version 1.2 Beta but they will now be bundled along with the version 2.0 development to save time.

The database table re-structure and full re-code is a time consuming job but gives the dynamic website software major emphasis on the word "dynamic". It will allow a user to setup a site to do anything they wish and anything that it doesn’t so either the user or developer can quickly bolt on as a widget.

A quick insight to one new feature

Due to my experience of issues upgrading and making amends to sites (especially where clients are concerned) the new version comes with built in development and live environments which you can push live or rollback at the click of a button. This doesn’t even require multiple servers (unless you want to) just a separate domain or even better a sub-domain of the main domain. This is a very small part of an extremely big update therefore everything else including this feature will be detailed in a development release announcement at a later date.

In addition to launching version 2.0 of the dynamic web software I will be launching a new layout and style. The system has held the ability to switch between multiple styles since version 1.0 but I never had the time to build new style sheets or templates.

Finally, (for anyone who didn’t notice) I have rebranded and moved to leeallen.co.uk as the scope of this project is now much more than a portfolio ‐ not to mention the additional SEO benefits on ranking for Lee Allen. The next update should see the release of DWS version 2.0, and although it could be a while in development, it will be worth the wait.
